- At that time Jesus, full of joy through the Holy Spirit, said, “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for this is what you were pleased to do.” As Jesus glimpsed the defeat of Satan he was elated. What about you? How do you view the power of the Gospel unleashed in the world?
I have not really seen it in this light, the joy that Jesus had when Satan was brought down. Is it the joy of defeating an enemy or the joy of freeing mankind from his grasp? The latter, I would think.
- There is a deliberate choice on God’s part to use the weak and innocent rather than the powerful and wise and Jesus supports this path that God has chosen. Why so? How will this shape the way you see your role as a Christian in a non-Christian world?
If the evil one is so easily defeated by human power and intellect God would not have needed to sacrifice his Son. At the same time mankind has consistently been seduced by power and cleverness. It is not that I should pretend to be stupid and weak but I need to realise that in the battle against the evil one I can only win with God on my side; no, only God can win.
- “All things have been committed to me by my Father. No one knows who the Son is except the Father, and no one knows who the Father is except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.” In the context of what Jesus said about God’s choice, who do you think Jesus would choose to reveal God to?
The humble and the innocent, the one who seeks wisdom, the one who serves God. Jesus himself said, “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
