Psalm 104
“How many are your works, Lord! In wisdom you made them all;”
As someone who has survived the global pandemic of 2020, I am in awe of the human body that God has created. Not only are our bodies able to renew and repair itself, we also have an in-built defence system that is able to learn to deal with pathogens that we have never encountered before.
When you think of the power in a tsunami you think of the power of the earthquake that could generate such destructive power in water.
And all this is nothing when you think of the sun and the galaxies and the black holes.
And then you think of the destruction of Hiroshima and Nagasaki by the power generated by splitting atoms.
Now think of the fact that you have the privilege of meeting and having a relationship with the One who not only has created all of this but continues to sustain it.
I must confess that all this knowledge seldom moves me to “sing to the Lord all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live. May my meditation be pleasing to him, as I rejoice in the Lord”. I am much more occupied with myself, my life, my needs, my pains, my plans, my goals, my cares, my concerns, my family, my church, my friends. My soul is lifted or brought down by them and my relationship with my God is mostly about these, about me, rather than about him.
Somehow my perspective has little sense of the perspective of reality and truth. I am occupied with my tiny life when I should be occupied with the God who sustains my tiny life and, indeed, all life.
“Praise the Lord, my soul. Praise the Lord.”
