WORSHIP
Psalm 105
“Give praise to the Lord, proclaim his name; make known among the nations what he has done. Sing to him, sing praise to him; tell of all his wonderful acts. Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice. Look to the Lord and his strength; seek his face always. Remember the wonders he has done, his miracles, and the judgments he pronounced, you his servants, the descendants of Abraham, his chosen ones, the children of Jacob.”
When we think of worship we think of a special activity that we regularly do on Sundays in church. We think of singing songs and listening to God’s word being taught.
The Psalmist tells us that it is not so much that God is narcissistic and needs to hear our praises all the time but rather that the people around us may come to know him and let him into their lives as well.
In this sense then, worship is not only something that we offer to God that is his due, but also that worship (or perhaps more relevantly, praise) should be a part of our lives, our conversations and our actions because God is a vital reality in our lives. We thank God when good happens, we appeal to God when in need, we turn to God to still our fears, and we share with others how God calls us to do what is good and right as well as to act with compassion and mercy.
In other words, our spiritual relationship with God should be much more transparent so that others may know him (or perhaps come to know better the God whom they worship in their own religious journey).
God is a common reality that we share with others around us. God is involved in all the earth. Perhaps when we are willing to share the God we worship, praise and obey, others will come to know him better and worship, praise and obey him as well.
“He is the Lord our God; his judgments are in all the earth.”
