SMALL THINGS
Zechariah 4
“Who dares despise the day of small things, since the seven eyes of the Lord that range throughout the earth will rejoice when they see the chosen capstone in the hand of Zerubbabel?”
Once you get past the bible’s overview of the creation and fall of man, you will see God consistently working with small, insignificant individuals to accomplish his goals for the salvation of the world. Hebrews 11 gives a long list of these individuals who served God in faith to accomplish his will.
God, it would seem, delights in the accomplishments of faith in him, rather than displays of power and might that the world uses to accomplish its will.
Once we understand this, we will teach ourselves to not be enamoured with worldly ideas of success—numbers, size, importance, status, acclaim—and be focused on daily and consistent obedience.
“Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’” (Matthew 25)
