2025 Devotions Week 33

A LIFE WITH GOD
Psalm 123, 124, 125

“Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion, which cannot be shaken but endures forever.”

It is very common for modern man to want the benefit but not pay the price and obviously when it comes to God, the price is life, and this is too high a price for many of us.

When it comes to goods and services in life we have no choice but to pay whatever price is required. Yet when it comes to God we make promises that we do not make good. We bargain with God because we want to retain control over our lives. We want his protection, his blessing in this life and heaven in the next yet to walk in his ways is too much and we grudgingly give our Sunday mornings and maybe 10 or so minutes for a few days in the week to read the Bible and pray. We treat God as another deity that we can manipulate for our benefit.

To trust in the Lord is to walk in his ways, trusting that he will protect us and ensure our good. It is not to expect all these from him while living our lives for ourselves and in our ways.

When things do not turn out well we don’t seek after others who offer us their protection or their reward; we look to the hand of our master and seek his mercy. When things turn out well we are grateful to our Lord and give praise and thanks to him who has faithfully helped us.

When we trust God we do not allow wickedness sway over our lives and our decisions but wholeheartedly walk in his ways because we have handed our lives over to him.

“I lift up my eyes to you, to you who sit enthroned in heaven. As the eyes of slaves look to the hand of their master, as the eyes of a female slave look to the hand of her mistress, so our eyes look to the Lord our God, till he shows us his mercy.”
