WHO IS LIKE YOU, LORD GOD ALMIGHTY?
Psalm 89
“I will sing of the Lord’s great love forever; with my mouth I will make your faithfulness known through all generations. I will declare that your love stands firm forever, that you have established your faithfulness in heaven itself.”
Christians are very familiar with words like love, faithfulness, righteousness, justice, compassion and mercy. We know they describe our God, who is the God of the Universe, Creator of the Heavens, Source of All Life. We know of how he sent his Son to do what we cannot, to save us from our sin.
Sometimes though, we take this for granted.
Seriously, who is like this God whom we worship? This God who binds and commits himself to all these virtues and we can trust that he will fulfil his promises made freely to us all?
Isn’t it amazing that the Bible was given to us in which God reveals himself in all his glory and splendour?
Let us take time to savour this God of ours and taste the deliciousness of Him who has revealed to us that he is love and faithfulness, that his power and authority protects us, that he stands for righteousness and justice.
And let us embrace these wonderful qualities of his and share them, albeit only weakly and inconsistently, with others around us.
“Blessed are those who have learned to acclaim you, who walk in the light of your presence, Lord. They rejoice in your name all day long; they celebrate your righteousness. For you are their glory and strength, and by your favor you exalt our horn.”
