THE PRAYER OF THE RIGHTEOUS
Psalm 17

“Hear me, Lord, my plea is just; listen to my cry. Hear my prayer—it does not rise from deceitful lips. Let my vindication come from you; may your eyes see what is right.”

I wonder if you are frustrated because while the righteous plead those who throw their lot with the world and embrace the ways of the world prosper: the rich grow richer, the voice of the immoral grow stronger, and those who exploit the base desires of man are celebrated as heroes.

David paid no mind to these realities. To him, God is the only reality that matters and he only seeks vindication that comes from God. He has no desire for the rewards of this world because they require hearts to be callous, mouths to be arrogant and bellies that have no pity for their prey. David yearns for a world where the righteous will be heard by God, and righteous choices will be seen and acknowledged by him.

We know that the complete answer will only take place in the hereafter when Jesus comes again. But in the meantime we must not lose heart and give in to the darkness.

“As for me, I will be vindicated and will see your face; when I awake, I will be satisfied with seeing your likeness.”
