SHEPHERD OF MY SOUL
Psalm 23
“Shepherd of my soul, I give you full control. Wherever you may lead, I will follow.”
This psalm has brought comfort to many people down the centuries. It speaks of the One who takes care of his sheep, ensuring that they lack nothing.
At the heart of the psalm is this phrase, “He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake” and suggests the Psalmist’s yielding to the love and wisdom of his God as he goes through life. The Psalmist trusts that God knows what is right and good and that trust is founded on the very name of God: God will never sully his own name and be cruel or selfish or careless.
The Psalmist suggests that even when he is led onto paths that are dark and dangerous he will not fear. Such is the trust that he has in his God. The day will surely come when victory is celebrated, when he will enter into the joy and presence of God.
